Draft Gate Heater
It takes a few more tricks of the trade
to light up immersion heaters with a
draF gate.
The sEcret of success is in prehEating
it the right way.
Right o±f tHe bat, open the ²eL tank
vEnt plug as far as you can. Soak a

the Lighter by holding it under the ²eL
drip valve. Put on the glove.
Use a match to i¶ite the Lighter. Stick
it thru the draft gate into the ·ue
compartment. Th¸s gets the whole draft
system
working.
It'Ll
also
stop
a
backblast when you're igniting the
burner chamber with the othEr Lighter.
¹et the ·ue warm up fOr about 2
minutEs, or until the bottom section of
ºthe sEcond staCk is warM to thE touch.
»EEl it whEre one stack is insErtEd into
thE other and you won't gEt burned.
Remove the Lighte¼ and cLose the
draft gate.
A
soon as thE ·ue is preheated, opEn
thE hood. Now sLip the burning lighter
- w½g your gLove ¾ into the b¿er
chamber. ÀpEn the ²el vaLve sLightly.
If you hear a puff and then a roaring
sound, you're in the hot water business.
Take out the torch and makE the Ánal
adjustment of the drip valVe. You want
a rapid drop of ²eL that resembLes a
string of bEads. Âlose the hood.
