Dear Sergeant
r.r´,
Keep 'em cool. In fact, the cooler the
better.
Te experts say that at -20°F, you
can completely stop batteR discharge.
'Course, you can±t always get 'em
that cold outside a ²eezer section. But,
even at 35°F³which your ´ig can
doµ_ you slow down dR¶cell discharge.
So, aim for a temp somewhere be·
¸een 0°¹35°F.
ºo get an idea just how much you can
slow discharge, eyeball SB 11»30. It
shows how long a batteR will last a¼er
refrigerated to½age.
A¾er 2 years in cold sto¿ge, a BA»30
will last
is
months stored at 50À70°FÁ
At 30Â40°F, it has up to 35 months of
sheL life le¼.

You Ãre Äght abOut conÅensation, tho.
ItÃs a problem. HereÃs how to beat it.
Use the re²igerator only for batÆ
teries. Wen the door opens anÅ closes
many times a day, say for soÅas or
snacks, the warm outside air hits the
cool inside air. Tat forms condensaÇ
tion on your batteries.
Storing batteries in the ²eezer, too?
DEost when batteR stocks get low.
Tat keeps the number of warmed¹up
(and wet) batte½ies to a minimum. You
can w¿p these few dRÈcells in heaV
paper or a blanket to keep 'em cool durÉ
ing the defrosting.
If your rEigerator is uÊeÅ to store
other things which requËre Ìequent
door openings, use plastic bags or a
µ
plastic wrap. Índ,

coMe sealeÅ, leave theM sÎaled. Te
Ïu can also put desiccant in the Ðig.
It will absorb much of the moisture in
the air and keep it ²om the dRÈcells.
I
you have trouble Ñnding desiccant
locally, see Section
¶
of CºA 50Ò970.
Wen itÓs time to put a cold dÔ¹cell
to work, let it warm up for an hour or
so at room temperature. Tat gives it
plenÕ of time to ''sweat. ÃÃ Öipe it dR
and put in in your gear.
I
your unit needs a re²igerator for
condensation forms on the plastic and
not on whatÃs inside.
