Putting a fel boost pump into place on an OH-58 or UH±I can stretch your·
patience to the limit and leave you shaking liKe a leaF.
You worK on your bacK under the bird; the worKspace is limited; and it's
hard to see what you're doing.
²F a buddy helps you, things get even more crowded.
A slip³up can cause anything From bruised ´nucKles to a bustEd pump.
Your big problem is getting the 3±in bolt thru the sump plate and into the
Fitting. Bolt, plate and Fitting are all moving, usually in Diµ¶erent directions.
TM 55±1520±210±23±2, Para ¸0±99, says to put a ¹º±in
x
5-in guide bolt thr»
the sump plate into the Fitting. ¼t's still a tricKy maneuver. TM 55-1520±228±23±2
says even less.
There's a better way.
Latch onto three ¹º±in
x
3 V½±in bolts,
NSN 5306¾00-281¾8945. Cut the heads
oµF2 oF them. Have your support peo¿
ple weld those 2 together where the
heads were, then wÀld the third bolt to
one end, maKing a "T.Á You now haveÂ
a 7±in tool to get that pump in place.
Use three

Éoc´wire the cap to the bolt. Then connect the electrical wiring or air pump

Auxiliary Ìel cells help a Íuey go
Îrther to get the job done.
When installing the cells, you have
to get everythÏng together the right way.
¼F you get pieces together wrong, the
whole assembly is harder to put
together, Ðel FÑow is restricted and
there is more stress on the lines.
Seems li´e Òurphy has a special
Èondness Óor oÆe particular piece. ¼t's
the adapter, NSN 4730±0Ô±064-2487,

The adapter goes with the right-hand
Èuel taÆK, between the tan× and elbow,
NSN 4730±0Ô±070-8534.
But some mechsØwith Òurphy's
helpÙput the Fitting between the checK
valve, ÚSN 4820±Û±758±9299, and the
elbow, NSN 4730±00±277-2459. That
restricts the fel Èlow.
