Out here in the deseRt, sand, heat, and rough count± make it im-
portant to keep APC wheel bearings greased. That can mean
lubing
Â
s often as weekly² But sand causes more problems when
you're pumping grease.
Sand can plug the reLef fittings. If a reLef fit³ing'´ plugged, it's
real easy to pump in too much grease if you're using a pneumatic
Grease gun instead of the manual grease gun that's part of your Bµ.
¶oo much grease blows the hub seal.
That's why you should only pump grease by hand.
If pumping gets hard after 6 to
8
shots of lube, you know
something's wrong² It's probably a plugged relief fitting. Here's
how to cure it:
¶ake oF the reLef fit·ng with a 71¸6¹in socket wrench.
WorK the fit·ng's valve bearing with a papercºip unt» the bearing
move´ freely²
Screw the fitt¼ng back on² Pump again. ½rease
should come out of the fit·ng² If
it doesn't, your mechanic needs
to take a look²
