f you inspect the buttstock like it says
on Page 2-9 in TM 9±1005²319-23&³,
you'lL have to replace the butt cap
screw eveRy time. You may da´age
the tAedown pin detent spring, too.
The headshed is ´aking a change to
the procedure. It goes like this:
EyebaLl
the
area
between
the
buttstock assembly and the Lower µe¶
ceiver. ·emove the bUtt cap sCrew and
buttstock only if there's a gap of
132
inch or ´ore or the buttstock ´oves
Frward to reaµ.
¸se a jeweler's screwdriver or the
f¹briCated tool in ºig E-3 to push down
the takedown pin detent spring and de»
tent. If the spring won't compress or
the detent pin won't spring back, repair
the pin and spring like it shows in Paµa
2¼17.
½ube the pin, spring and detent by
putting lube on the detent and holding
the rifle with the barreL pointing
straight up. ½et the lube work its way
around the spring and detent.
If there is a gap of
±²2
inch or more
or the buttstock ´oves Frward to reaµ,
remove the butt cap screw and the
buttstock asse´bly. Take care not to

lose the spacer, takedown pin, detent
and spring. Exa¾ine the lower reCeiver
extension Fr looseness and corrosion.
If it¿s loose, send it to
DS.
If corroded,
clean with soLid Àilm Lubricant.
Check lower rE³eive´
exension for
looseness, co´rosion
Álean and Lubricate the extension
and the takedown pin, detent, spring
and its hoLe.
