ome Black Hawk mechanics don't
believe you have to disconnect the ends
of the main rotor head pItch control
roDs to inspect the bearIngs Fr wear.
They say you can get a good readIng
by just liftIng the rod to relieve t±e
pressure²
They're also mistaken.
³´ you don't disconnect the rod, you
can't put the µeler gage straight In to
get an accurate reading.
Plus, you
won't get a good view of the whole
bearing surface.

What you can see may look good¶
but what you can't see may be corroded
or pitted beyond lImits²
³´ you ´ind coRrosion, remove it with
a nylon scourIng pad, NSN 7920-00·

the bearings²
³f you see 5 or more pits in a

diameter circle, or if any pit is Deeper
than 0.050 inch, replace the a¹ected
rod end like it says in Step 3 of Task
11, TM 55·1520¸23º·2»¼7. Use dial
indicator, NSN 5210·00·277½8840, to
measure pItting depth.
To check the ¾earings Fr wear, use
a locally made plastic µeler gage. ¿ig
6·1. 1 of the TM shows how to make
the µeler gage. You no longer use the
dial indicator method to check ¾earing
wear.
