Dear EditoR
By now eve±one should
knoW about tying doWn Whip
antennas When your
vehicle's on the move. Tying
doWn antennas keeps them
from hitting overhead
obstacles-lIKe b²³dges, tree
limbs or poWer l´nes.
But did you knoW this?
µhen your vehicle¶s parked
for any length of time
(ove·ight¸ for example)¹
you should take the antenna
out of the tiedoWn cl³P and
let ºt stand straight up.
µhy? »Wo reasons:
1.
Letting the antenna
stand up²¼ght relieves
tension on the base spring½
Over time¸ tension Weakens
the spring.
2¾ On an upright
antenna, the base spring¿s
coils are close togetheÀ
Which helps keep out
moisture and debrisÁ
²
tiedÂdoWn antenna has ºts
sp²¼ng coils spread open¸
making it easier for dià and
moisture to get ºnside and
damage the base and the
ÄF cable.
