WARNING
Changing tire pressures or wheel
alignment out of the recommended
specification may adversely affect the
vehicle’s handling characteristics. Loss
of vehicle control may result, causing
serious injury or death to personnel and
damage to equipment.
NOTE
Vehicle must be up on jack stands for
the following checks.
a.
Check tread depth of tires with tire
gauge. If tread depth is less than
1/16 in.(1.59 mm), replace tire.
Radial tires will take approximately
1,300 miles (2,092 km) to wear
1/32 in. (0.79 mm). If mission will
require the vehicle to travel this
distance within a month, replace tire
if it measures 3/32 in. (2.38 mm).
a.
Tread depth is less
than 1/16 in. (1.59 mm).
b.
Inspect tires for uneven wear and
balance (TM 9-2320-387-24-1).
The vehicle’s alignment is optimally
designed for GVW operation. Operating
the vehicle without a load can cause
excessive wear on the outer edge of the
tread pattern. If this pattern develops,
turn tires around on the rims
(para. 8-4.1).
NOTE
If vehicle is new and has been driven
less than 3,000 mi (4,800 km), it is
not necessary to align wheels unless
abnormal handling is reported.
b.
Tires exhibit excessive
or uneven wear or balance.
c.
Check alignment of front and rear
wheels (TM 9-2320-387-24-1).
c.
Front or rear wheels are
out of alignment.
