own power, tracks are not braked and transmissions are
set in the neutral position to permit towing in the loading
area.
Contrary to normal stowage of tanks on a
conventional vessel, the idler wheel chocks (items F and
G, fig 7-5) should be in place, and the tanks may be
positioned by crane in their final stow location.

Barge stability is noticeably affected by
the placement of heavy-lift items, and tracked vehicles
should be loaded symmetrically in sequence about the
centerline of the barge or lighter.
The M60-series tanks
should be loaded in a manner to counterbalance
variations in the locations of centers of gravity from true
center; that is, the M60-series tanks should be
alternated head to tail.
