EQUIPMENT CONDITION
• Parking brake set (TM 9-2320-272-10).
• Hood raised and secured (TM 9-2320-272-10).
• Steering pump drivebelts removed (M939/A1)
(para. 3-230).
GENERAL SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
Do not start engine when power steering hoses are
disconnected.
WARNING
Do not start engine when power steering hoses are disconnected.
Pressure may whip hoses, causing injury to personnel.
NOTE
M9391A1 and M939A2 power steering pumps are maintained
basically the same. This procedure is for M939/A1.
a. Removal
Cap or lug all openings immediately after disconnecting
hydraulic lines and hoses to prevent contamination. Failure to do
so may result in steering system damage.
NOTE
• Have drainage container ready to catch hydraulic oil.
• Tag all hydraulic lines and hoses for installation.

Loosen clamp (4) and remove hose (5) from steering pump return tube (3).
2.
Loosen nut (7) and remove high-pressure hose (6) from steering pump high-pressure fitting (8).
3.
Remove three screws (18), lockwashers (19), and steering pump (2) from mounting bracket (17).
Discard lockwashers (19).
4.
Remove locknut (9), washer (10), screw (13), washer (12), screw (14), washer (15), and adjusting
link (11) from mounting bracket (17) and engine (20). Discard locknut (9).
b. Disassembly
1.
Remove two screws (24), lockwashers (23), washers (22), and mounting bracket (17) from engine
mounting bracket (21). Discard lockwashers (23).
2.
Remove springtite (28), washer (27), pulley (1), and woodruff key (26) from steering pump (2).
Discard woodruff key (26) and springtite (28).
3.
Remove breather (25) from steering pump (2).
