Rear wheels chocked (TM 9-2320-272-10).
Front wheel removed (TM 9-2320-272-10).
General mechanic’s tool kit (Appendix E, Item 1)
Front wheel valve removed (para. 3-456).
Torque wrench (Appendix E, Item 144)
GENERAL SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
MATERIALS/PARTS
When cleaning with compressed air, wear
Oil seal (Appendix D, Item 629)
Seal (Appendix D, Item 630)
eyeshields and ensure source pressure does not
exceed 30 psi (207 kPa).
Oil seal (Appendix D, Item 497)
Drycleaning solvent is flammable and toxic. Do
Ferrule (Appendix D, Item 118)
not use near an open flame.
Gasket (Appendix D, Item 246)
Keep fire extinguisher nearby when using
drycleaning solvent.
GAA grease (Appendix C, Item 28)
Sealant (Appendix C, Item 30)
Abrasive cloth (Appendix C, Item 20)
Drycleaning solvent (Appendix C, Item 71)
1.
Remove brake drum (9) from hub (2).
2.
Remove ten screws (10) and washers (11) from drive flange (7).
3.
Install two screws (10) on threaded holes (8) of drive flange (7). Tighten screws (2) until drive
flange (7) separates from hub (2).
4.
Remove drive flange (7) from hub (2) and remove two screws (10) from drive flange (7).
NOTE
Tag inner and outer bearing for installation.
5.
Remove outer bearing nut (6) and washer (5) from spindle (1).
6.
Remove nut (4) and outer bearing (3) from spindle (1).
NOTE
Assistant will help with step 7.
7.
Remove hub (2) from spindle (1).
8.
Remove snapring (14) and two air seals (13) from hub (2). Discard air seals (13).
9.
Remove screw (15), ferrule (20), tee (12), and gasket (19) from hub (2). Discard ferrule (20) and
gasket (19).
10.
Remove hub seal (18) and inner bearing (17) from rear of hub (2). Discard hub seal (18).
