CHAPTER 23

REPAIR OF WINTERIZATION KIT

23-1. Description. All M915 series vehicles which are to be used in Arctic Regions may be equipped with

an optional Winterization Kit to permit vehicle start-up down to -50ºF (-45.6°C). The system is powered

thru connection to an outside 110 VAC source and should be put in operation as soon as the vehicle is

stopped or parked for any length of time. If the vehicle is allowed to cold “soak” for an extended time

before activating the Winterization Kit, considerable time will be required to attain a starting level tem-

perature. Further explanation of components and operation instructions may be found in TM 9-2320-

273-10. The system consists of the following major components:

a.

Circuit Breaker Box and Power Receptacle (fig. 23-1 ).

b.

Transmission Oil Heater (fig. 23-2).

c.

Engine Oil Heater (fig. 23-3).

d.

Engine Coolant Heater (fig. 23-4).

e.

Battery Box Heater (fig. 23-5).
