a.

Clean transmission drive coupling (1) and engine flywheel spline (2). Apply antiseize compound.

b.

Hit the front end of the crankshaft (3) two or three times with a large plastic mallet, driving the crankshaft towards

the rear or flywheel-housing end of engine. Striking the crankshaft will reduce the oil film on the thrust washers

and provide a more accurate reading.

c.

Apply constant pressure on the crankshaft (3) towards the rear engine mount.
