charging cable of your machine gun
wiLl do the cable in .
.. sooner or later.
Expect it.
Mishandling of the cable wiLL do it in
sooner. Count on it. That goes double
when the M2 is mounted on the MI
tank±
To get maximum wear and to prevent
fraying or breaking, do tHis:
Keep t²e cabLe away
from the
fRame of the periscope on the M³ when
you charge the machine gun.
W²en you release t²e charging
handle, guide it back± ´F you just Let the

wilL
hit

Of
the
pulley
swiveL .
.. and Fray or break±
Do not wrap or tie the cable around
the mount support to hoLd the barrel ex-
tension back. That's a bad way to inµ
stall or remove the barrel.
A one¶handed, steady pull is aLl
·hat¸s needed to charge the M2 (the
M85 takes 2 hands and muscle)± Too
much muscLe can damage the cabLe.
M60 Notch Hole's OK
Don't sweat it if the f¹rearm spring
catch notch of your M60 machine gun
º
has a hole wo»n through it! ¼
The hole won't bother receiver ex½

tension or operating rod ¾nction± Do
not try to patch the hoLe, however± That
couLd botch up the works.

Tag Your Weap±nS
AÏ 190Ð11 says to tag small arms parts with the seriÑl number of the weapon
when parts and weapon are to be separated.
You can tie on a temporary tag.
What you must not do is to make a permanent mark on a PartÒ such as with
an etching tool or a punch set. Óot only can you end up payinG f¹r the paÔÕ
Ör the weapon, but you make it tou×h on supportØleveL repair where parts can
bÙ headspaced or reconditioned and used on other weapons.
Also, permanent markings can interÚre with the smooth oPeration of a
part . Û. such as from burrs or misshapen indents± They also remove the metaL's
phosphate finish, which causes rust.
ÌoLlow the Aϱ Üse a temporary tag and save money and parts.
