Loose steering gear mounting bolts caN take all of the Fn out of your day
if you

to notice-aNd report±trouble In the early stages:
Gear noise-rattle or "chuckle²
Steering wheel Kick³back±jerk-or
loose steering
BindiNg in the steering linkage or
steering wheel
Any of these can be the beginning of
real trouble, such as stEering gear
separation ´om the ´ame .µ. rupture
of connecting hydraulic lines .
.. or
loss of steeriNg power assist .
.. and
maybe an accideNt as you try to
control steering!

Play it sa¶· ¸t taKes only a MInute or
so to check ¹r loose steering gear
mounting be¹re you move out. While
the engine's waRºng up±t»ansmission
in PA¼, parkIng brake O½±get
somebody to tu¾ the steering wheel
back and ¹rTh.
Look down on top of the steering
gear. Watch ¹r movement·
Loose? Get y¿ur mechanic to torque the mounting bolts to 80 lbÀÁ.
Hold it! Âven if there's no steering gear movement, you're not out of the
woods! ¸f steerÃg doesÄ't ¶el right, soUnd right or work right, something's
wrong somewhere· Get it checked out-it's your Neck!
