If
you've
got
a
scraper,
NSN
1005-01±131±1914, use it to remove the
gas regulator of your M249 machine
gun.
If you use your weapon's spri²g guide
rod Fr the chore³like Page 2±6 of TM
9±1005±201±10 tells you³chances are
the tip will break. Spring guide rods are
in short supply because of broken tips.
The scraper on Page C±4 of your ±10
TM will do the
j
ob as well as or better
than the rod tip.
So, C´ to the TM will substitute the
sµraper Fr the rod tip on Pages 2±6 and
2¶7·
Here's
how
to
remove
the
gas
regulator with the sµraper:
Remove the barrel.
Set the regulator between NOR¸
MAL and MAX.
Put the tip of t¹e scraper in the
notch in the ºont »e¼ of the gas block

Hold the scraper in position while
you turn the collar back beyond the
NORMAL position.
Remove the collar.
Remove the regulator ºo½ the gas
block.
If you don't have a scraper handy and
have to use the guide rod tip, Fllow in¸
structions on Pages 2±6 and 2¶7¾
Remember this¿ If you do break a tip,
the
guÀde
rod probably is still

viceÂble. Tuà it in to yoUr armorer.
