If you want the missile of your
M48A2 Chaparral system to Fy true,
remember to chaNge the desiccant car-
tridge in your APU (air puri±cation
unit) on schedule.
The APU ²eds pure air ³r missile
e´ectiveness. Impure air a´ects missile

The desiccant cartridge of the APU
must be changed a¶er each 28 hours of
operation. ·he same goes ³r the IR
receiver desiccant. Page 2¸17 of ·M

Keep the Dust down
Don't make dust when you repair or otherwise maintaiN the ablative coating
on the deck of your Chaparral launch station.
The»coating cont¼ins asbestos and asbestos can cause ca½cer when breathed.
Interim Changes to the TM's delete the repair procedure, prohibit any repair
which makes dust ¾om the coating, and direct that dust¸making repairs be done
at depot level under coNtrolled conditions.

WaNte±:
Clea² Air
The air induction system ³r your
M 1 's enGine works like an Oversized
vacuum cleaner.
Anything that gets
close to the iNt¿e grilles gets sucked in.
The
precleaner
and
±lter
packs
remove the dirÀ particles and trash ¾om
the air that is pulled in, and everything
hums along smoothlyÁexcept when the
air cleaner system is clogged.
The system will clog up Âst if those
rubber strips between the ²nder skirts
and the hull are missing or toà up.
This is especially critical ³r the
te
strips at sKrts 4¹ Ä and 6 on the le¶ side
(nearest the air iNtake grilles).

Why are the strips so importaNt?
Because an ML tank tends to pull dust
up the inside of its fender skirts. If that
dust gets near the vacuumÅlike opening
of the air intake system, the ±lters clog
up real Âst.
So the rubbÆr strips are used to seal
the area between the skirts and hull.

need replacement strips.
The TM iÈ short of in³.
Here are the ÉSÉ's you need.
