The following must be done before grinding, cutting, or welding any equipment that
has been CARC-coated:
Wear protective equipment (e.g., protective eyeware, gloves, apron) when
grinding or sanding CARC-coated equipment. Do not leave any
skin exposed.
Use high-efficiency air purifying respirators when grinding or sanding
CARC-coated equipment.
Never weld or cut CARC-coated equipment; grind or sand off CARC paint
completely before welding. Failure to comply may result in death or injury

Unsafe welding practices can cause serious injury from fire, explosions, or harmful
agents. Allow only authorized personnel to weld or cut metals. Protective clothing,
eye protection, and respirator must be worn; adequate protective equipment used,
a suitable fire extinguisher kept nearby; and requirements of TC 9-237 strictly

•
CARC paint contains Hexamethylene Diisocyanate (HDI) which is highly irritating
to skin and respiratory system. High concentrations of HDI can produce symptoms
of itching and reddening of skin, a burning sensation in throat, and nose and
watering of the eyes. In extreme concentrations HDI can cause coughing,
shortness of breath, pain during respiration, increased sputum production, and
chest tightness. Failure to comply may result in death or injury to personnel. Seek
medical attention in the event of an injury.
