a.
Inspect midship winch for tight mounting and
broken or missing parts. Tighten loose parts. Repair or
replace missing or damaged parts as necessary
(para. 13-12).
b.
Check drive chain (1) for proper tension and damage.
To check and adjust tension, using a straight edge as a
gage, measure 7/16-9/16 in (1.1- 1.4 cm) deflection at
upper midpoint of drive chain (1). If deflection is not
correct, record measurement and adjust drive chain (1).
1. Loosen two locknuts (3) on sleeve bearing (2).
2. Slide sleeve bearing (2) right or left in slotted holes
on support bracket (4) to tighten or loosen drive chain (1).
3. Repeat steps 1 and 2.
4. Tighten two locknuts (3) when proper deflection is
obtained.
Replace drive chain (1) if damaged (para. 13-13).
