a. Riveted Frame Connections.
1. Check for space between rivet head and rivet frame
members. Place .001 -inch thick feeler gage between
rivet head and riveted frame member.
2. Thoroughly clean rivet and riveted connection of all
dirt, grease, and oil.
3. Apply lubricating oil around suspect rivet and
riveted connection. Allow approximately 10 to 20 seconds
for the oil to penetrate. Wipe rivet and riveted connection
free of oil. Tap rivet with eight-pound hammer. Any
indication of oil around rivet indicates a loose rivet.
Replace all loose rivets.
4. Check all riveted connections for signs of movement,
such as shiny spots or movement between rivet and
framing member. If movement is indicated, rivet and
connection are loose. Repair all loose connections.
b. Bolted Frame Connections.
1. Perform inspection of bolted frame connections.
2. Check bolts and nuts for tightness and proper
mating with frame surfaces.
3. Check torque of all bolts not scheduled to be
removed in accordance with appendix D.
