Wheels chocked (TM 9-2320-272-10).
Spring brake(s) caged (TM 9-2320-272-10).
Wheel(s) removed (para. 3-218 or 3-219).

GENERAL SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
Keyway insert (Appendix D, Item 268)
Drycleaning solvent is flammable and toxic. Do
Wiper (Appendix D, Item 720)
not use near an open flame.
Inner oil seal (Appendix D, Item 634)
Outer oil seal (Appendix D, Item 508)
Keep fire extinguisher nearby when using
drycleaning solvent.
Axle flange gasket (Appendix D, Item 164)
GAA grease (Appendix C, Item 28)
Gasket sealant (Appendix C, Item 30)
Drycleaning solvent (Appendix C, Item 71)
1.
Remove ten screws (6) and washers (7) from axle shaft (5).
2.
Remove axle shaft (5) and gasket (4), if present, from hub (1). Discard gasket (4).
3.
Remove outer bearing locknut (8), bearing nut washer (9), and adjusting nut (10) from axle housing (13).
NOTE
Assistant will help with step 4.
4.
Remove hub (1) and drum (2) from axle housing (13). It may be necessary to back off brake
adjustment to remove drum (2).
5.
Remove outer bearing oil seal (11) and outer bearing (12) from hub (1). Discard oil seal (11).
6.
Remove keyway insert (14) from axle housing (13). Discard keyway insert (14).
7.
Remove inner bearing oil seal (16) and inner bearing (17) from hub (1). Discard oil seal (16).
8.
Remove wiper (15) from axle housing (13). Discard wiper (15).
9.
Remove ten wheel studs (3) and hub (1) from drum (2).
10.
Remove five screws (20), washers (19), and dustshield (18) from inside drum (2).
