General mechanic’s tool kit (Appendix E, Item 1)
EQUIPMENT CONDITION
Torque wrench (Appendix E, Item 145)
Parking brake set (TM 9-2320-272-10).
MATERlALS/PARTS
Left splash shield removed (TM 9-2320-272-10).
Drag link disconnected (para. 3-229).
Steering parts kit (Appendix D, Item 677)
1.
Bend two long tabs (5) of retainer (6) out of notches in pitman arm (7).
2.
Bend two short tabs (4) out of notches in retainer (6).
3.
Remove retainer (6) and pitman arm (7) from shaft (8) of steering gear (1). Discard retainer (6), tab
lockwasher (11), and friction washer (9).
1.
Press new friction washer (9). and new tab lockwasher (11) into slot on new retainer (6).
2.
Press three nylon balls (10) into indentations on retainer (6).
3.
Align marks (2) and (3), and position pitman arm (7) on output shaft (8).
4.
Install retainer (6) into shaft (8) until drag is felt on friction washer (9).
5.
Align long tabs (5) to notches on pitman arm (7) and bend tabs (5) into notches.
6.
Tighten retainer (6) 225 lb-ft (305 N•m).
7.
Bend two short tabs (4) into notches on retainer (6). Tighten retainer (6), if necessary, to align notches.
FOLLOW-ON TASKS:
Connect drag link (para. 3-229).
Install left splash shield (TM 9-2320-272-10).
