NOTE

Coat all steering gear parts with clean lubricating oil before

assembly.

Step 1 is performed only if new roller bearing is installed.

1.

Using arbor press and mandrel, press new roller bearing (2) into gear housing (4).

2.

Install new O-ring (11) on rack piston (9).

3.

Position rack piston (9) in soft-jawed vise.

4.

Place two poppets (14), spring (16), and spring rod (15) in bore (17) of rack piston (9).

5.

Install two poppet seats (13) on rack piston (9) with two snaprings (12). Tighten seats (13)

20-25 lb-ft (27-34 N•m).
