b. Cleaning and Inspection

WARNING

Drycleaning solvent is flammable and toxic. Do not use near

open flame and always have a fire extinguisher nearby when

solvents are used. Use only in well-ventilated places, wear

protective clothing, and dispose of cleaning rags in approved

container. Failure to do this may result in injury or death to

personnel and/or damage to equipment.

Eyeshields must be worn when cleaning with compressed air.

Compressed air source will not exceed 30 psi (207 kPa). Failure

to do so may result in injury to personnel.

NOTE

For general cleaning instructions, refer to para. 2-14.

Clean idler pin (9), input gear (11), drive gear (10), output gear (4), and output shaft (5) with

drycleaning solvent and inspect for breaks, cracks, chips, pitting, and wear. If broken, cracked,

chipped, pitted, or worn, replace.

Clean thirty-eight needle bearings (8), input bearing (2), and output bearing (6) with drycleaning

solvent. Do not dry bearings (2) and (6) with compressed air.

Inspect thirty-eight needle bearings (8), input bearing (2), and output bearing (6) for pits, scores,

cracks, and chips. If pitted, scored, cracked, or chipped, replace.

Clean PTO housing (3) with drycleaning solvent and remove gasket remains from mating surfaces.

Inspect PTO housing (3) for cracks and chips.

Clean screw (18), lever (17), washer (16), shifter cover (15), spring (14), poppet (13), gear

controller (12), and bearing caps (1) and (7) with drycleaning solvent. Clean gasket remains

from mating surfaces.

Inspect screw (18), lever (17), washer (16), shifter cover (15), spring (14), poppet (13), gear

controller (12), and bearing caps (1) and (7) for pits, breaks, cracks, chips, and wear. If pitted,

broken, cracked, chipped, or worn, replace.
