NOTE
Readings must be within limits given in table 4-37. The
letter L shows a loose fit.
If readings are not within
given limits, throw away part and get a new one.
Relief valve spring (1) and relief valve plunger (2) come
in parts kit.
Kit also has new retaining pin (4), one of
two types of spring retainer (5), and several shims (6).
If any of these parts is damaged, all should be changed.
Either type of spring retainer (5) can be used on this
pump .
If kit has two plungers, the longer one is for
this pump.
Save all shims (6) even if pump you are working on has
no shims.
Shims will be used later during pump test and
adjustment.
Measure free length of relief valve spring (1). Measure load needed to
squeeze relief valve spring (1) down to 1.8100 inch. Measure maximum
solid height of relief valve spring (1).
Measure outside diameter of relief valve plunger (2).
Measure inside diameter of relief valve bore (3). If reading is not within
limits given in table 4-37, get a new oil pump.
Measure fit of relief valve plunger (2) in relief valve bore (3). If reading
is not within limits given in table 4-37, get a new oil pump.
