bowS that join the transmission oil lines
to the transmission oil cooler.
These
elbows,

(the supply manuals call 'em tubes) are
getting busteD up by tHe hundreds be-
cause
hardly
anybody
knows
how
to
tighten 'em right if they start to leak.
The thinG
not
to do is to ba´g on these
´uts with a hamµer a´d chisel.
The
·
right way is to tighten up the big nut a´d then the sµaller nut¶w¸!ch acts as a
jam nut to seat the tube. They are tighte´ed in production to 5¹³6º lb³»t torque. If a
leak occurs below the large nut, replace gasket¼ F±² 5330³269³2845. A leak arou´d
the small nut could mea´ the ½ube ¾eat is distorted. TM 9³2350¿215À20 (Áeb 65Â
has the doP on pg 2³239.
For the
Ãarger ´ut use a´ open e´d
Wrench (ijin) froµ the Åo. 2 Commo´
tooà set. Áor the smaller ´ut use a´ open
end Wrench (Æv³i´) from Your ²o. 2 ±up-
plementaà tool set.
²OTE: If you haÇe to get at the ´uts
on the rear elboW, you may find iÈ easier
to
take the forward
(outboard)
eÉbow
oÊf first.
To tighten the rear elbow¾ when the ¾hroud is stilà o´ t¸e Çe¸icle You haÇe to
go through the side access ope´i´g a´d the shroud acces¾ platË ope´i´g. Ìou µaY
saÇe time if You take the shroud off the Çehicle.
Íhen you ÎaÇe to couple the oià line to the elboW, go easY o´ the coupÃËr
nut. Tighte´ until you get first sign of resista´ce o´ the Wre´ch .

a quaRter tur´ more. That way the ´ut Will be secure but you ca´ ¾tiÃÃ gËt it off
easy if You need to.
Ïu´ the e´gine before installi´g the shrouds to µake sure t¸ere arË ´o leaKs.

There's a 47³cent item protecting uµpteen dolÐars worth of equipment o´
M60AÆ ta´ks, the M728 CÑV's and some modified M60's.
