Taking a Long Trip .±±
Here's AOAP Guide
-±²
Appendix B of TB 43-0210 says to sample engine and automatic transmission
oiL every 100 hrs/1,000 miles or 60 days, whichever occurs firs±. But if you 're
going on a trip that's going to take your vehicle past that limit, saMple before
you go. S²ART ²sg #38, HQDA DA³O-P³F 221504Z ²ar 84 has the word.
Send the sample to your assigned ´abµ In the Remarks block on the ¶D Form
2026, request a priority ana´ysis. Tell the lab you 're going on a trip.
You'll get a copy of the oil analysis results. Take it with you.
You May have to saMple again whi·e you're away. So bef¸re you leave, let
the lab nearest your destination know you 're coming. Schedule the next sample
from when you take the saMple before departure.
If you 're on the road when it's time ¹r your next sample, wait unti´ yoU arrive
at your destination. Send a sample and a copy of the oil analysis record to the
´ab you notified. This time, in the Remarks b·ock on the D¶ ForM º026 tell
the la» the vehic·e is on a mission away froM its home station. Again ask f¸r
a priority ana·ysis. You'll get a copy of the results.
Fo´low the regular interval while you 're at your mission site. When you 're
getting ready to move out, be sure to send in a sample if you 're going to reach
another interval before you get back to your base. Turn in a´l the AOAP records
to the home lab when you return.

You've got a lube job ahead of you if you drive yoUr t¼ck into hub½deep
water¾especia¿´y if the axle housing's hot from operation. Sudden coo´ing of
the axle housing creates a vacuum inside the houÀing. WaterÁis sucked in past
the axle seals and Joins the gear oi´.
Â
This is bad news for diÃferential ´ube. Water-contaminated oil is a mighty
poor Älubricant for gearsÅand that adds up to gear Æilure!
There's not Much you can do tÇ keep the water out, so you've got to get it
out. You drain the diÈerential and put in new oi´. This fits in with lube order
reÉuirements to relube after Êording.
Water contamination of ·ube can happen whether you plow across a river or
just drive into hub-deep waterÅlike backing your ²812A 1 riËbon bridge
transporter into a stream.
So how do you know for sure that water has been sucked into the axle hous
ing? You don'tÌbut there's no sense in taking chances on ruining diÃferential
gears. Change the oilÍ
Fluid Color Mix OK
You can mix different colored
silicone brake f´uid. The on·y purpose
of the dye is to identify new fluid when
bleeding the brake system. Early Êluids
were ye´low. The pUrp´e/blue dye came
laterÅit's easier to identify.
