Procedure
Dry cleaning solvent (SD2) is toxic and
flammable. Wear protective goggles and
gloves and use only in well-ventilated area.
Remove breather (1) and clean with dry cleaning
solvent (item 10, appx C).
Dry, inspect, dip in OE/HDO (item 14.1, appx C)
and install.
Perform the following semiannually if winch or cable
has not been used.

Unwind and clean entire cable.
Brush-soak cable and drum with OE/HDO or OEA
(item 14.1 or 14.2, appx C).
Wipe off excess oil and coat cable and drum
with lubricating oil (CWll or GO-75) (item 13.1
or 13.2, appx C).
Cable is unsafe if three broken wires are
found in one strand of 6 x 7 ft (1.8 x 2.1
m) rope, six broken wires in one strand of 6
x 19 ft (1.8 x 5.8 m) rope, or nine broken
wires in one strand of 6 x 37 ft (1.8 x 11.3
m) rope.
Check the boom and tow winch cables for
damage resulting from kinks, bends, crushed
sections, or fraying
points and hazards.
