INSPECT RAMP WIRE ROPE (CABLE) — Continued
0656 01
c.
Pinching (9)/dimpling (10) – indicates a condition where the cable has been stretched to extremes, destroying
tensile strength and ability of wire strands to recover original chararistics/form.
d.
Unraveling (11) – indicates mutiple failures of wire construction where sub-cable strands are unwinding from
around the cable core.
e.
Separation (12) – indicates defects within and limited to sub-cable strands that are similar to the characteristics of
main cable unraveling.
f.
Kinks (13) – indicates that the ramp wire rope (cable) either had a loop in it followed by tension being applied
without first being straightened or a “shock load” (in cases of ramp cable use) had been applied to the ramp wire
rope (cable), causing the cable to recoil created the kink.
