hen your starter starts chattering, something's wrong! Probably loose staRter
Bolts.
Loose Bolts let the starter move as the starter gear engages with the flywheel
ring gear. Gea±s get misaligned and gea²s chatter. That can cause Bits of gears
to Be ground oF.
Save your HMMWV's sta±ter, lots o³ down time and Uncle's money. Get
your mechanic on loose bolts, pronto.
Mechanics, instead of tightening loose Bolts, put in new ones. Use NSN
5305-01-153´0227 and add sealing compound, NSN 8030-00-148-8833, to the
Bolt threads. Torque µew bolts to 39¶44 lB-³t. That will make sure they won't
loosen up right away.
