a. Disassembly

Support knob (1) with V-block and drive out

headless grooved pin (2).

Remove knob (1) from gear shaft (3). Remove ball

(4) and spring (5) from knob (1).

Remove preformed mechanical felt (6) from detent

plate (7). Discard preformed mechanical felt.

Remove two setscrews (8) from detent plate (7).

Withdraw gear shaft (3) and remove flat washer (9),

12 key washers (10), and preformed packing (11).

Discard preformed packing.

Remove headed straight pin (12) only if damaged.

b. Repair

Remove corrosion, grease, and dirt from all parts.

Refer to TM 9-254 for cleaning instructions.

Visually inspect for missing or damaged parts.

Repair or replace parts in accordance with

authorized parts listed in appendix D.
