GENERAL SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
Engine compartment must be clear of tools and
other materials before starting engine.
CAUTION
Engine lubrication system cannot be primed through bypass filter.
1.
Remove pipe plug (3) from gearcase cover flange (1) on left side of engine (2).
2.
Connect oil priming pump to orifice (4) in gearcase cover flange (1).
3.
Prime until 30 psi (207 kPa) of pressure is obtained.
CAUTION
Do not crank engine continuously for more that 30 seconds. Wait
2-5 minutes before repeating to prevent starter motor damage.
4.
Close fuel shutoff valve and crank engine 15 seconds while maintaining 15 psi (103 kPa) pump
pressure.
5.
Disconnect oil priming pump and replace pipe plug (3) in gearcase cover flange (1). Tighten pipe
plug (3) 60-70 (81-95 N•m).
6.
Check oil level (TM 9-2320-272-10).
