You're of to a rocky start iF you don't let the glow plugs do their job.
Your OUCV uses engine compression to heat the air to ignite the Fuel. I(
the engine is cold, the a±r might not get hot enough. The cyl²nders need to be
preheated.
That's the job oF the glow plugs-Small heating elements seated in each
cylinder.
Your job as the vehicle operator, is to watch the WAIT light on the
dashboard. The WA³T light is above and a little to the
´
right oF µhe
speedometer.
When the WAIT
light goes out. you're
ready to start
thE ±ngin±
Loose steerinG gear mounting bolts can take all oF the Fun out oF your d¶y
iF you F·il to notice -
¶nd report -
trouble in the early stages:
•¸ear no±se - rattle or "chuckle¹
•
ºteering wheel kick»back
-
jerk - or loose steering
•
Binding in the steering linkage
or steering wheel
Any oF these can be the begin¼
ning oF real tro½¾le¿ such as steerÀ
ing gear separ¶t±on From the Frame
... rupture oF connect±ng hydraulic
lines .
.. or loss oF steering power
¶ss±st .
.. and m¶ybe an accident as
you try to control steering!
Pl¶y it saÁe. It t¶kes only a min½te
or so to check For loose steering gear
mount±ng beFore you move out. While
the eng±ne's warming up  transmisÃ
sion ±n PARK¿ parking brake ÄN

Loose? ¸et your mechanic to torque the mounting bolts to

Never r¶ce the engine aFter ±t starts. The engine is st±ll coldÈ
Hold it! Even iF there's no steering gear movement¿ you're not out oF the
