Using alignment marks, install pitman arm (24) on sector shaft (22) with screw (21) and new

locknut (23). Tighten locknut (23) 330-370 lb-ft (447-502 N•m).

NOTE

Before connecting lower steering column, ensure steering wheel

spokes form a Y. Assistant will steady steering wheel during

installation.

Position lower steering column U-joint (27) on steering gear input shaft (29), ensuring that screw

holes in U-joint (27) align with groove in shaft (29).

Install screw (28) in sleeve (26) and shaft (29) and secure sleeve (26) on shaft (29) with new

lockwasher (30) and nut (25). Tighten nut (25) 28-34 lb-ft (38-46 N•m).

FOLLOW-ON TASKS:

Install steering gear stone shield (para. 3-238).

Install left splash shield (para. 3-301).

Install drag link (para. 3-229).

Fill steering gear to proper oil level (LO 9-2320-272-12).

Start engine (TM 9-2320-272-10) and road test vehicle.
