REMOVAL
WARNING
DO NOT handle brake shoes, brake drums, or other brake components unless area has been
properly cleaned. Dust, which can be dangerous if you breathe it, may be on these
components. Wear an approved filter mask and gloves. NEVER use compressed air or a dry
brush to clean brake components. Clean dust or mud away from brake components with
water and a wet, soft brush or cloth. Failure to comply may result in death or injury to
personnel. Seek medical attention in the event of an injury.
NOTE
It is not necessary to remove backing plate and service brake assembly from axle in order to
disassemble service brake assembly. Disassembly may be performed with service brake
assembly on axle or on work bench.
