b. Inspection

Inspect carrier housing (5). Measure outside diameter of carrier housing shaft (8) and replace if less than

4.300 inches (10.922 cm).

Inspect left and right sleeve bushings (9 and 10). Replace if they show excessive wear. Measure inside di-

ameter of left and right sleeve bushings and replace if greater than 0.8185 inch (20.7899 mm).

Measure backlash of sector gear (11) and gear rack (12). Replace sector gear and gear rack if backlash is

greater than 0.010 inch (0.254 mm).

Inspect and measure detent plunger (13). Replace if deformed more than 1/32 inch (0.8 mm).
