NOTE
Two types of oil pressure regulator have been used on
these engines.
This task is the same for both except as
noted.
On early model oil pressure regulators, if upper plug
(1) or upper spring (2) are found to be damaged,
change both parts.
Only late model plug (3) and
spring (4) are now available.
On early model pressure regulators, check that threads on four mounting
screws (5), pipe plug (6), plug (1), and plug (7) are not damaged. Fix
minor thread damage with a thread chaser.
On early model pressure regulators, check that plugs (1 and 7) are not
cracked.
Check that springs (2 and 8) are not cracked or worn. Throw
away cracked plugs and cracked or worn springs and get new ones.
On late model pressure regulators, check that threads on four mounting
screws (5), pipe plug (6) and plug (9) are not damaged. Fix minor thread
damage with a thread chaser.
On late model pressure regulators, check that plugs (3 and 9) are not
cracked.
Check that spring (4) and spring (8) are not cracked or worn.
Throw away cracked plugs and cracked or worn springs and get new ones.
Check that two plungers (10) are not cracked. If plunger is cracked,
throw it away and get a new one.
WARNING
Dry cleaning solvent is flammable, Do not use near an
open flame.
Keep a fire extinguisher nearby when
solvent is used.
Use only in well-ventilated places.
Failure to do this may result in injury to personnel and
damage to equipment.
Check that two plungers (10) do not have nicks or burrs, Fix small nicks
and burrs with a fine mill file or crocus cloth dipped in dry cleaning solvent.
