Equipment Conditions
a. Battery Specific Gravity Checks
WARNING
• Battery gases can explode. Do not smoke or allow sparks or open flames near
batteries. Wear safety glasses or goggles when checking batteries. Failure to
follow this procedure could cause serious injury or death.
• When working on batteries, wear eye protection and remove all jewelry, dog tags,
and metal items to avoid electrical shock and burns.
Sulfuric acid contained in batteries can cause serious burns. If battery corrosion or
electrolyte makes contact, take immediate action to stop the burning effects.
When removing batteries, always disconnect ground cables first to prevent damage to
batteries.
1 Remove battery caps (1) from all cells.
NOTE
• Repeat steps 2 thru 5 for each cell.
Periodically calibrate the duo-tester with distilled water.
2 Swing plastic cover (2) back on duo-check coolant and battery tester. Clean measuring surface (3) and bottom
cover (4) with clean, soft cloth. Close cover.
