The bypass valve controls oil pressure by allowing
excess oil to flow directly back to the crankcase.

Starting System (Fig. 7-4)
a.
The
engine is cranked by a 12V starting motor.
b.
When the solenoid of the starting motor is
energized, the solenoid core pulls inward and shifts the
pinion into engagement with the ring gear on the engine
flywheel.
c.
An overrunning clutch protects the starting
motor from overspeeding by the engine.
d.
The
energized solenoid also closes a set of
contacts to provide a circuit for the starting motor.
e.
The starting motor remains engaged until the
starting switch is released by operator.
f.
