Do not try to do this task unless

Use magnetic particle inspection equipment or use strong light and magnifying
glass to check that crankshaft (1) is not cracked. Look extra closely around
oil holes. Look extra closely at corners where crankshaft journals (2) meet
crankshaft thrust faces (3) and where crankshaft cheeks (4) meet crankshaft
thrust faces.
If crankshaft (1) is cracked, get a new one and go to frame 21.
WARNING
Dry cleaning solvent is flammable. Do not use near an
open flame.
Keep a fire extinguisher nearby when sol-
vent is used.
Use only in well-ventilated places. Fail-
ure to do this may result in injury to personnel and
damage to equipment.
Check that crankshaft journals (2) are not deeply nicked, burned, grooved,
scuffed or discolored from overheating. Fix very minor nicks and scratches
with a crocus cloth dipped in dry cleaning solvent.
If crankshaft journals (2) are deeply nicked, burned, grooved, scuffed or
discolored from overheating, get a new crankshaft (1).
